| John Waller | SGS 1944-49 | I left school and went to work at the
Pest Infestation Laboratory (PIL), just round the corner from school
on the London Road. While there I took the
London Matriculation exam, then intermediate BSc followed by a
BSc (Hons) from Birkbeck College, University of London.
I spent 2 years National Service in the Royal Air Force (1952-1954).
In 1965, my family and I emigrated to Nelson, New Zealand where I worked
for the Entomology Division of the DSIR. In 1968, we left for the USA,
where I studied for a PhD in insect toxicology. We returned to Christchurch,
NZ in 1973 where I took a Senior Lectureship in the Entomology Department at
Lincoln University until I retired in 1992. While at Lincoln, we lived on and
farmed a small block of land, running some sheep and growing asparagus and
eventually planted a 10 acre vineyard. We have since sold our farm and now live
in the village of West Melton. We have 2 daughters, a son and one grandson. (Updated 14 April 2002) |

I was in the SGS 2nd XI football team and the cricket and tennis teams,
and was a prefect. After SGS, I took a degree in Social Sciences at
Southampton University before joining Bristol Siddeley Engines at Patchway
Bristol. In 1974, they were purchased by Rolls Royce. I moved with them to
Coventry to the Rolls Royce Industrial and Marine Division, working in the
commercial department. In 1976 I joined British Leyland and stayed with them
through all their different names and owners - Austin Morris, Jaguar, Rover,
Triumph, Rover Group, BAe, BMW - finishing this summer (2002). During this time
I acquired an MBA from Warwick University. I am married with 5 children and

and progressed through various IT positions in the UK and abroad over the
following 35 years. I took early retirement in October 2000. After leaving
school the social life included the 18+ club where I met Jackie Hobbs:
we married in Oct 1971 and celebrate our 30th this year. We have 4 children
and one grandchild"

I gained 3 A-levels ("A" grades in Maths and Physics, and "C" grade in
Further Maths) and 1 S-level (1 in Physics). I earned a BSc Physics from
the University of Southampton. I also have CMA (Accounting) and
CPIM (Supply Chain). I currently live in Canada (Toronto) with my two
daughters who are at the University of Toronto. My husband died in
Sept 2001. Until my husband became sick I was a Senior Consultant
with CGI, KPMG etc. Previous to that I was a Director IT with Kraft.
Although I work in Canada, you may still be benefiting from my work in England.
I met with and persuaded Bill Gates to sell corporate licences for
Microsoft software. Other stories - Before coming to Canada in 1974 I worked
on the British Space Programme and had programming in use on a satellite.
I am still in touch with Carol Blacklock, Daphne Beaufoy
(sister Barbara) and of course my sister Gillian. I also talk with
Miss Saunderson who goes to church with my parents. Are there any other
SHS girls in Toronto or Mississauga?

Graduated from Imperial College, London with a degree in Chemical Engineering
and spent several years roaming the globe as a chemical plant commissioning
engineer and trouble-shooter, eventually settling in Hong Kong where she
lives with her husband and three children. She runs her own engineering
consulting companies and is still very involved in hockey. She would love to
hear from any classmates and meet up with any Old Paludians who may be

After school I went to teacher training college in Hertford and then studied
at Cambridge for a BEd. Married in 1975. Started teaching - in a comprehensive
school. Left teaching in 1980 to start a family. We have 4 children: our eldest
daughter graduated last year and works for IBM, our second daughter is at
Aberystwyth University; our third daughter is in her first year at
sixth form college and our son, the youngest member of the family, is in
year 10. I now work as the Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator
in an infant school. I remember, with pleasure, being a part of the junior choir
and then the senior choir. I should love to hear from anyone who remembers me.

Left to set up a business selling medical ultrasound imaging systems which was bought
by Cardiac Services UK Ltd, becoming their Managing Director.
Set up the competitive intelligence business

major multinational clients worldwide! Member of MENSA, married
with 2 children and living in Whaley Bridge (Derbyshire Peak District).

I was in one of the "pre-nursing" classes. Left school and became a student
nurse at Royal Free Hospital, hated it and left after a year. Did
various jobs until I undertook social work training in 1984. I now work as a
Supported Housing Manager for a housing association in Cambridge. Very happily
married to Alan, no children but 2 boxer dogs. I remember, Ruth Rogerson,
Stephanie Pugsley, Ann Lovatt, Marian Elvidge and lots of other
first names only. Teachers - Miss Owen, Mrs Booth,
Miss Fletcher, Miss Trennery, Miss Darling, Miss Burnett.

After leaving school I did a degree in music at Bath College of Higher
Education, now Bath Spa University College. A year PGCE meant
teaching in a middle school in Dorset and then a move to Hertfordshire where we have
continued to live. As well as having four children I have taught music and
RE part time and done much supply work in various primary schools in
Hertfordshire. Three years ago I trained for ordained ministry on a
part-time training course studying theology and Biblical studies and now work

sixth form - Aaaaaghhh - how I missed my school and friends. I did go to look
at the old school once but it wasn't there - I was so excited driving down the
motorway, up the Bath Road, past the chippy where we went "illegally" some
lunchtimes, past the bus-stop where we caused chaos each 3.45pm and left into
Twinches Lane - "oh my goodness" - silence ensued. My school wasn't there!

Achieved BSc in Modular Studies degree (1983), followed by Post-graduate
secretarial diploma (1986), nurse registration (1996) and
Diploma in Health Studies (1996). Held several different jobs in
administration then nursing including Intensive Care nursing at Harefield
Hospital. While training as a Medical Researcher, I had health problems which
left me redundant and unable to continue training. I moved to Cornwall and
started a new life, I'm now studying Multimedia and training as a
Microsoft Sytems Engineer as well as training as a proof-reader.
I'm expecting to have a new career in IT. Married and divorced twice; no
children - as I wanted. Very happy living alone with 2 cats on the Cornish coast.
