AppealsRequest for reminiscencesDear Old Paludian Next year marks the 90th Anniversary since the founding of the Old Paludians Association in 1915. The committee would like to mark the occasion by publishing a further book of history and reminiscences, a sequel to Peter Bennett’s ‘Recollections of Slough Secondary School and the Old Paludians’ published in the year 2000. In order to achieve this we are asking for contributions from both staff and pupils who have attended Slough Secondary School, Slough Grammar School, Slough High School and Upton Grammar School. Every one has a tale to tell, an observation to make, a special memory of their time at school. This is your opportunity to write your reminiscences and submit them to us so that they can be published and shared with others. This book will be similar in size to the previous one, and will be edited by a sub-committee led by Mr David Rogers, the former Head of Classics at Slough Grammar School. As a guideline we are looking for articles that will contribute to documenting the history of the Schools, the Old Paludians and Slough and District. We want to know about the achievements of pupils and staff both at school and afterwards, and most importantly we want to include the special events as remembered by our members. We will welcome articles demonstrating a touch of humour and some good clear photographs. Most importantly the book will be a tribute to the many staff and pupils who have been part of the evolving story of the Schools and the Old Paludians. Ideally, compositions should be no longer than two typed A4 sheets or equivalent. The committee reserve the right to edit contributions to ensure that the guidelines are met and that there is a consistency of style. The book committee members are Jennifer Ballard, Marie Hughes, Alan Mabbott, David Rogers, Valerie Storie and Jean Tyler. We welcome Jennifer to the committee and are delighted to know that she has offered to undertake the arduous task of preparing the typed script ready for printing. Please email your contribution to her at or ask for a postal address to send diskettes, CDROM or paper copy. Please include your name, maiden name (if appropriate) and years at school. As with all projects of this type there are deadlines. We need your contributions before the end of September so that the editing, design and proof reading can be completed by the end of November. The manuscript will be submitted to the printer before Christmas to ensure that the book is available at next year’s reunion.
